About Me

Who is Tropical Travel Girl?

MeCropLaMadlin-SaveWebLowI’ve always been a tropical girl. Like a fish out of water, I was born and raised in the Midwest, but from the age of seven, Florida vacations opened up my world to sun, sand and turquoise water.

Me with Mom on a Florida beach, age 7.

Me with my Mom in Florida, age 7.

(That’s me with my Mom on the beach in Ft. Myers, Florida.) On my first Caribbean trip to Jamaica in 1990, a snorkeling excursion introduced me to an incredible new world…the world that exists below the surface of the sea. The fish out of water was hooked.

In 1992, I became a PADI certified diver and have since visited a long list of islands, 30 (so far) in the Caribbean, and another dozen or so covering destinations in French Polynesia, Fiji, Mexico, Hawaii, Canary Islands, Balearic islands, Corsica, and Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands. Visit the Where I’ve Been page to see the complete list and link back to pages covering each destination.

Tropical travel has become my passion. I’ve never met an island I didn’t like, although I’ve liked some better than others.  I’m often asked questions like, “What is your favorite island?” and “I’m thinking of going somewhere tropical on my next vacation. Where should I go?”

Through my destination content, blog posts, and photos, I hope to be able to help anyone interested in planning a trip to the tropics, and because every destination is different, I want to help you discover where your ideal island destination may be.

I’ll also be sharing information and advice about planning, packing, and how to navigate the ever-changing world of travel. I will be doing occasional product reviews and interviews with travel experts.

I hope you’ll sign up for updates from Tropical Travel Girl. Please share your comments on individual posts or questions you may have about traveling in the tropics.

    • Sharon,
I’m very appreciative of your comments and so glad you are enjoying the site! I’m happy to help if you have any questions about a particular destination for a future trip. Keep checking back. I’ll have some new destinations to add later this year!

  2. I’m glad to have met you, Tropical Girl! Even though I don’t share your passion for the underwater world, I surely love the tropics just as much as you do. But besides turquoise waters, coconut trees and white sand beaches, we both seem to have an affinity for travel writing, so let’s keep in touch.

  3. Definitely, Anda! I am very glad we were able to travel together and look forward to staying in touch. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.

  5. That’s a wonderful article you’ve written about Elvis and The Guest House. I am from Pakistan and a very avid Elvis fan, but have no chance of visiting Graceland. The article’s accompanying pictures are outstanding and give the reader a fair idea about the environment there. Thank you.

    • Baidar, I really appreciate you taking time to leave a comment. It makes me happy to read you so enjoyed my article and photos from my visit to Graceland. It is truly amazing the impact Elvis had all over the world!
